The sun reached its highest position in the sky yesterday,
June 20th. Summer Solstice is
the longest day of the year and the days only get shorter from now until the
Winter Solstice arriving on the 21st of December, (the shortest day
of the year after which the days get longer). We have transitioned into the
height of the summer adorned with heat advisories and record breaking temps.
This morning’s call time was 5:36am. So Matt, Granmama Chris
and I walked to the beach to watch in wonder and awe as a pink sliver began to
brighten the horizon and the round edges of the sun began to emerge. Somehow I
thought we would be the only ones out that early to enjoy the sunrise. As if we
are the only ones who know about this breathtaking sight…There were clumps of
men, women, children and dogs scattered at the ocean’s edge, pointing, embracing
and witnessing the light ease above where the sea and sky meet. Watching the
sunrise is one of those natural phenomena that humbles us, amazes us and unites
us. So find one morning this summer, wake up early and begin the day with the
sun.
Namaste,
Emily
